SAFE Tours

Roger Atwood

Roger Atwood is an arts journalist and author of Stealing History, which inspired the idea for SAFE Tours.

Stealing History has been translated into three languages and is currently in its fourth printing in North America. He is a Contributing Editor at Archaeology magazine and a correspondent and critic for ARTnews. His work has also appeared recently in Scientific American, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and The Guardian. He has lectured at universities and academic conferences in Venezuela, Turkey, Peru, Canada, and throughout the United States and has received numerous fellowships, including an Alicia Patterson fellowship and a Knight International Press fellowship. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of Massachusetts and Masters in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University. Currently a Visiting Researcher at Georgetown University, he lives in the city of Washington, DC.

His tour covers artifacts described in Stealing History including the Vicús treasures from northern Peru and the little known pieces from Batán Grande.

SAFE Tours are $40, $10 for students with valid ID INCLUDING group admission* to the museum.

We welcome members of the press. The Museum charges $16 for adult group admission. Space is limited, please email us to inquire about availability.

*Group admission fees to the Metropolitan Museum of Art are charged by the museum to all tour attendees, including members of the museum and the press. Questions about group admission fees should be directed to the museum: 212-570-3711
