SAFE adheres to the core belief that information about the past belongs to us all and as such, we must share stewardship and responsibility for protecting antiquities—the few survivors of early cultural history—no matter where they are found.
Our “Say YES” campaigns rally support for countries seeking assistance to protect their cultural property and preserve all humanity’s undiscovered past.
Say YES to bilateral agreements
These campaigns were created to support the requests from member-nations to the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property (UNESCO 1970) seeking bilateral agreements with the US to restrict antiquities importation:
Say YES cause pages on Facebook
SAFE’s Facebook cause pages connected to specific countries allow us to interact directly with the public and raise awareness with links to articles, updates, photos, and also engage in discussions.
In response to reports of damage to Egypt’s cultural heritage during the January 2011 unrest SAFE created buttons which were distributed free-of-charge to anyone who requested them, anywhere in the world. In all, we sent buttons to Australia, Greece, England, Canada, Sweden and all across the United States.
In 2013, we followed the effort with “Share This Image” campaign, an initiative conceived by summer intern Beatrice Kelly.
