This April 10-12, different groups around the world will be joining together to commemorate the looting of the Iraq Museum and make a statement. We'd love for you to join us. Holding a vigil of your own is a great way to be a part of something big. You can personalize your activities to best suit your group.

Anyone can host a vigil. We have seen all kinds of successful events in 2007 and 2008. Use our tools and suggestions to help plan an event in your community, at your museum, university of college, and with friends and family.

The first step to planning a vigil is registering it here with us. Please fill out the form below with as much information as possible. Your event will be added to our list of locations so others in your area can join. If you already have a program planned for your vigil, please include it here. If you don't know yet or if your program changes, just fill out the form with the basic information, such as date and location, and email us later as your plans develop. Thank you for being a part of the SAFE Global Candlelight Vigil!

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions. We will be available for information along the way.

Description of program, if any:

“There is not an archaeological site in the world that is safe,” Gibson said. “This is the problem — it’s not just the loss of Iraq’s treasuries, but the loss of treasures even [in the United States].”

McGuire Gibson, an archaeologist from the University of Chicago said in the Stanford Daily, January 29, 2008

Watch "Thieves of Baghdad" (Al Jazeera, 2007) which details the theft and smuggling of artifacts from Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. To view "Thieves of Baghdad" in its entirety, sign up to host your Candlelight Vigil here, and SAFE will provide a URL enabling you to download and view this intriguing, rarely-seen documentary.
