SAFE supports importation restrictions of antiquities under Article 9 of the 1970 UNESCO Convention as an effective deterrent to the flow of illicit antiquities. SAFE's mission requires us to inform the public that there is something concrete that everyone of us can do, no matter who or where we are. To this end, SAFE has created campaigns to rally public support for bilateral agreements between the U.S. and other countries which are signatories to the Convention.
China-U.S. bilateral agreementOn February 17, 2005, SAFE gave testimony at the public session at the State Department. The decision is still pending.
Italy-U.S. bilateral agreementOn September 8, 2005, five representatives from SAFE testified in Washington regarding Italy's request for renewal of the bilateral agreement with the U.S., which was signed in January 2001.
Cyprus-U.S bilateral agreementSAFE informed all interested parties to respond to CPAC's requiest for comments and to testify in person at the public hearing on January 25-26, 2007.

The Iraq Cultural Heritage ActWe launched a campaign to raise awareness and support for this bill including a Poster Hanging Day on September 29, 2003. A brochure and a postcard were distributed. |
